Walking On Arran

There is a relatively high level of access on the Isle of Arran with a fantastic mix of Mountain, Moorland and Coastal walks.

Paddy Dillion has identified '41 Walks Around The Island' in his book on the subject and that should get you started. The Shorehouse is accredited as walker friendly by Visit Scotland with boot cleaning, washing and drying facilities available. Our central location in Brodick is an ideal base for starting your first walks.

Leave the car in Ardrossan and use the bus to get you to the start of the many walks around the Island. North Arran is made up of high mountains, wilderness and moorland where dear roam free and Golden Eagles can be seen over the high peaks. There are three estates with an interest in dear stalking Arran, Sannox and Dougarie. Stalking takes place at certain times and notices are displayed warning walkers to stick to clearly defined pasts. The fourth estate is the National Trust for Scotland which is managed for conservation and recreation with its most obvious walks around Glen Rosa and Goatfell but its land ownership stretching far beyond this. Much of Southern Arran is owned by the Forestry commissions and there is a policy of allowing virtual free access, accept when harvesting could cause a hazard.
